Fire Ritual for Harvest Moon
- Make an altar with items that symbolize fall and/or the elements to you. Place an item that feels right at each cardinal direction and elemental quality. Place a candle in the middle.
North – Earth
South – Fire
Earth – Air
West – Water - Call in the elements, the seasons, the cycles, sun and moon, dark and light; call in unseen forces, your guides, and any ancestors.
- Light your candle and say: As the wheel turns, I stand at the threshold of light and dark. I honor the harvest, the fruits of my labor and the gifts of the earth. I give thanks for the abundance that has filled my life, and I welcome the peace, rest, and introspection of the dark half of the year.
- Take one of your altar items in your hands and hold it close. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and that represent the harvests from your life – what have you accomplished, learned, or gained? What challenges have you faced, storms weathered, difficulties navigated? How have you grown from all of this? Take a moment to hold all this with gratitude and say: I give thanks for the lessons learned. I honor the growth it brought me. I release the rest.
- Gather 3 small pieces of paper and on each write:
1. What am I grateful for?
2. What am I harvesting?
3. What am I releasing?
Ball them into smaller pieces and do this with a sense of unattachment, trust, and surrender. - Say: And so it is. Blow out your candle.
- Under the light of the full moon, burn these pieces of paper. As you do so say: I offer back to the earth with trust and surrender.
